This Week @ WPUniversity: WordPress 3.6 RC2, Planning #WCTO, #WCSF This Weekend

wpuniversity-week-wrapup-jul26

This week flew right by! We’ve been keeping our heads down, working on updates to the WPUniversity plugin and walkthroughs. Here’s what we’ve been keeping an eye on:

1. WordPress 3.6 RC2 Now Available

The latest release candidate for WordPress 3.6 went live on Wednesday. From the official blog post:

We’re down to only a few remaining issues, and the final release should be available in a matter of days. In RC2, we’ve tightened up some aspects of revisions, autosave, and the media player, and fixed some bugs that were spotted in RC1. Please test this release candidate as much as you can, so we can deliver a smooth final release!

You can grab WordPress 3.6 RC2 from WordPress.org right here.

2. 8BIT releases their free Required theme

Required Theme for WordPress

The team at 8BIT are certainly staying busy! They’ve just released Required, a clean and elegant theme for bloggers.

In short, Required is a WordPress theme for the modern blogger because having a solid web presence these days is, well, required! It’s simple, easy-to-use, and drives readers’ focus to the content, and does so with no frills.

(If you’re picking up on the Medium vibe, you’re not alone.) Grab the theme in the WordPress.org theme repository.

3. New Plugin Walkthrough: Change Your Site Title

We’ve updated the plugin with a new tutorial: Changing your site title.

The name of your site or blog is incredibly important. It’s how the world will know you, and it plays a big role in how potential readers find you. This walkthrough should now be available for everyone using the plugin.

Not using the plugin yet? Sign up for the beta or check out the demo.

4. Planning WordCamp Toronto 2013

The Toronto WordPress meetup is hosting a WordCamp planning session tomorrow afternoon. (Side note: We’re sponsoring WordCamp Toronto this year.)

If you’re interested in learning more about what’s in the works for #WCTO2013, this is your chance to have your opinions heard, and chat with other WordCamp Toronto enthusiasts.

The RSVP list is full, but you can still get on the waiting list.

5. WordCamp San Francisco 2013 This Weekend

WPUniversity Wrap-Up: July 26 2013

Speaking of WordCamps…!

WordCamp San Francisco, the flagship WordCamp hosted by Automattic, is taking place this weekend. The Twittersphere will be lighting up with the #wcsf hashtag over the next few days.

If you weren’t able to make it to California for the event, no worries – they’re providing a live stream this year.

(You still gotta pay, though – $10, and no t-shirt.)
