What do new WordPress users want to learn?

Question Mark

Over the last few months we’ve been running free WordPress workshops at the Ryerson Digital Media Zone in downtown Toronto.

These workshops are a series of hands-on sessions that walk small groups of users through the basics of WordPress:

  1. Intro to WordPress
  2. The WordPress Admin Dashboard
  3. Posts & Pages
  4. Themes & Plugins

For each workshop we asked attendees what they wanted to learn about WordPress. Here’s what they said:

  • How to use the features and create a professional website.
  • I would like to be comfortable with this platform as I have several website ideas I would like to build using WordPress.
  • How to make an attractive blog that will attract visitors.
  • Getting traffic.
  • How to start and make a simple business website in 2-3 pages.
  • What constitutes a good website?

There are a lot of questions in here. Many of them are basic. As WordPress grows in popularity, more users are coming into the WordPress fold, which means we’re likely going to see more and more of the above.

We think that these kinds of responses are interesting, which is why we’re sharing them on our blog. So here’s a task for you:

Ask your customers, users, clients, friends, and anyone you know who is new to WordPress: “what do you want to learn?”
